Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., India’s leading SUV manufacturer, announced the brand name of its newest SUV; called the Mahindra ‘Thar ROXX’. Known for setting new standards in the automotive industry and as the manufacturer of authentic SUVs, Mahindra’s latest offering is – ‘THE’ SUV – a vehicle designed and engineered to offer an unmatched blend of sophistication, performance, presence, safety, and technology. The ‘Thar ROXX’ expands the Thar portfolio.
Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Sector, M&M Ltd., said, “The ‘Thar ROXX’ with its distinctive design, premium quotient, advanced technology, enhanced performance, sophistication, and safety is ‘THE’ SUV. While retaining the core attributes of the iconic Thar the ‘Thar ROXX’ represents the larger-than-life personality of a rockstar and will disrupt the SUV category.”
To differentiate the Thar Roxx from its 3-door counterpart, Mahindra has introduced several design changes. The most noticeable is the new body-coloured slatted grille, giving the front end a more aggressive look. The updated LED headlights now feature C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The bumpers also sport a contrasting silver finish, unlike the all-black bumpers on the 3-door version.
The new 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels give the Thar Roxx a premium appearance. The extended wheelbase and additional rear doors are significant updates, providing easier access to the rear seats. Enthusiasts will also notice the squared-off rear wheel arches, a departure from the round arches on the 3-door model. At the back, new LED tail lamps with an inverted C motif and a new spare wheel cover, as seen in previous spy shots, enhance the design.
While the dashboard layout of the Thar Roxx is like the 3-door version, it features beige-coloured upholstery for a more upscale feel. It also boasts numerous premium features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with push-button start, and a 360-degree camera. Safety features are expected to include up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and ADAS.
The Thar Roxx will come with the same engines as the 3-door model: a 132 PS 2.2-litre diesel and a 150 PS 2-litre turbo-petrol, possibly with increased power. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a torque converter automatic, with both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options available.
Prices of the Mahindra Thar Roxx could start at ₹ 15 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to ₹ 20-21 lakh for the top-spec automatic variant. It will go up against the likes of the Force Gurkha 5-door and other compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny as well.
