Mercedes-Benz India has expanded its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) portfolio with the launch of the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+, the first electrified AMG sedan in the E-Class range in India. The launch aligns with the company’s ‘powertrain agnostic’ strategy, offering customers the flexibility to choose the powertrain that best suits their driving needs while further strengthening its electrified luxury vehicle lineup.
Available in Performance and Racing Editions, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ is priced at ₹1.45 crore and ₹1.48 crore, respectively (ex-showroom, India).
AMG performance meets hybrid efficiency
The high-performance sedan is powered by a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing a combined system output of 430 kW (585 hp) and 750 Nm of torque. With the RACE START function activated, power increases to 450 kW (612 hp).
The AMG E 53 Hybrid accelerates from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph, which can be increased to 280 kmph with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.
The sedan is equipped with a 28.6 kWh high-voltage battery, delivering a WLTP-certified electric-only driving range of more than 100 km. It also supports 11 kW AC charging, enabling customers to enjoy emission-free daily commuting alongside high-performance driving.
The vehicle comes standard with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, active rear-axle steering with up to 2.5 degrees of steering angle, AMG Ride Control suspension, and hybrid-specific driving modes designed to balance everyday comfort with track-focused performance.
Mercedes-Benz reinforces powertrain strategy
Commenting on the launch, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said the AMG E 53 Hybrid reflects the company’s commitment to offering customers multiple powertrain choices.
“The E-Class has been the longest-running nameplate in the Indian automotive industry and the AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ underlines performance, practical usability and electric efficiency, making the E-Class portfolio truly unmatched. This performance sedan combines genuine AMG performance with plug-in hybrid efficiency, balancing an AMG customer’s need for racetrack performance with the practicality of daily usage. The AMG E 53 Hybrid furthers our ‘powertrain agnostic’ strategy for India, where customers decide the powertrain of their choice based on their requirements,” Iyer said.
Mercedes-Benz enters Indian padel ecosystem
In addition to unveiling the new AMG model, Mercedes-Benz India announced a multi-year title partnership with the Indian Padel Tour for the 2026-27 season, marking the luxury carmaker’s entry into one of India’s fastest-growing sports.
The Mercedes-Benz Indian Padel Tour will feature 19 tournaments across 11 cities, including five flagship Grand Slam events, beginning in Mumbai in August 2026 and concluding in Bengaluru in June 2027.
Through the partnership, Mercedes-Benz aims to strengthen customer engagement by offering exclusive lifestyle experiences beyond its vehicles.
Mercedes-AMG customers will receive privileged access to padel courts across India, invitations to exclusive Padel Days, priority registration and early information for India Padel Tour events. Buyers of the AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ will also receive direct entry into Grand Slam events.
