Volvo India has launched the all-electric EX90 luxury SUV in India at an introductory ex-showroom price of ₹1.26 crore. Positioned as the brand’s flagship model, the EX90 marks Volvo’s entry into the all-electric three-row luxury SUV segment in the country, replacing the XC90 at the top of its lineup.
The EX90 is offered in a single six-seat configuration and competes with the Kia EV9, priced at ₹1.30 crore, and the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580, which costs ₹1.49 crore. At ₹4 lakh below the EV9 and ₹23 lakh less than the EQS SUV 580, the Volvo enters the segment with a comparatively lower starting price. It is also priced ₹27.2 lakh above the petrol-powered XC90 it effectively succeeds in Volvo India’s lineup.
Volvo EX90: Powertrain and Performance
The Volvo EX90 gets a 106kWh battery pack paired with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that produces 456hp and 670Nm of torque. Volvo claims the electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 5.5 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 180kph.
According to Volvo, the EX90 offers a WLTP-certified driving range of 625km on a full charge. In a real-world test conducted by Autocar India, the SUV reportedly delivered an efficiency of approximately 5.5km/kWh, translating to an estimated range of around 580km under the test conditions.
The electric SUV is built on Volvo’s 800V SPA2 platform, which supports high-speed charging. It can accept DC fast-charging input of up to 350kW, with Volvo claiming a 10–80% charging time of 22 minutes under suitable charging conditions.
For home charging, the EX90 supports an 11kW AC wallbox, with a full charge taking approximately 11 hours. The home charger is included in the introductory ownership package for eligible bookings.
Volvo EX90: Exterior Design
The Volvo EX90 follows the brand’s minimalist design philosophy, with clean surfaces and a largely closed front fascia. The front features T-shaped LED headlamps with a pixel-style daytime running light signature, complemented by slim, vertically positioned fog lamps. The conventional grille is replaced by a closed panel featuring the Volvo emblem and a trapezoidal lower air intake.
The SUV has an upright profile designed to accommodate its three-row cabin. It features a 2,985mm wheelbase and comes with 21-inch alloy wheels as standard. Ground clearance is rated at 210mm and can be increased to 250mm through the standard air suspension system. The suspension can also lower the vehicle at higher speeds to support stability and aerodynamic efficiency.
At the rear, the EX90 gets C-shaped LED tail-lamps connected by a black horizontal strip, along with additional LED elements positioned beside the rear windscreen. The tailgate features the Volvo wordmark across its width.
The EX90 is available in six exterior colour options: Crystal White, Denim Blue, Mulberry Red, Onyx Black, Sand Dune and Vapour Grey.
Volvo EX90: Interior and Features
The cabin continues Volvo’s minimalist approach, featuring two-tone Nappa leather upholstery, brushed aluminium trim and a dashboard with very few physical controls. Most vehicle functions are accessed through a 14.5-inch vertically oriented touchscreen, while a separate 9-inch display serves as the digital instrument cluster.
The second row features captain’s chairs with sliding and reclining functions. However, these seats do not offer powered adjustment, ventilation, heating or massage functions, which are available for the front seats. Rear-window sunshades are also absent.
Access to the third row is through the gap between the second-row captain’s chairs. While the additional seating enhances passenger capacity, the third row is likely to be better suited to children or adults on shorter journeys than to regular long-distance travel.
The boot offers 324 litres of luggage capacity with all three rows in use. Folding the third row increases capacity to 690 litres. The EX90 also features a 46-litre front storage compartment, providing additional space for smaller items.
Another cabin highlight is the panoramic sunroof with switchable transparency, allowing occupants to change the glass from clear to opaque at the touch of a button.
Standard equipment includes a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, four-zone climate control, nine airbags, advanced driver assistance systems, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, automatic parking assistance, a digital key, wireless phone charging and a cabin air purifier.
Volvo EX90: Price and Introductory Benefits
The Volvo EX90 is priced at ₹1.26 crore (ex-showroom), and bookings are open in India. Customers completing their bookings before 31 December 2026 will receive an introductory package comprising an 11kW home charger, a three-year service package and an assured buyback guarantee.
Under the buyback programme, Volvo is offering an assured value equivalent to 65% of the vehicle’s value after three years, subject to the programme’s applicable terms and conditions. The offer is intended to address concerns around long-term resale values, which remain an important consideration for buyers evaluating premium electric vehicles.

Volvo’s Electric SUV Strategy in India
The launch of the EX90 expands Volvo India’s electric vehicle portfolio and strengthens its presence in the premium SUV segment. With its three-row seating layout, large battery pack, claimed 625km WLTP range and high-speed charging capability, the EX90 targets buyers seeking a luxury electric SUV with space for the family and the potential for longer journeys.
Although the three-row luxury EV segment remains relatively limited in India, the arrival of the EX90 adds another option for buyers considering an electric alternative to conventional premium SUVs. Its pricing, equipment package and introductory ownership benefits will be key factors as it competes with established models such as the Kia EV9 and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580.
