Yamaha has launched the YZF-R2 in India at ₹2.30 lakh, marking its global debut. The 204cc supersport gets 26.5 PS, 19.1 Nm and three variants.

India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has launched the all-new YZF-R2 in India, marking the motorcycle’s global debut and introducing the brand’s R-series supersport lineup to the 200cc segment.

The Yamaha YZF-R2 is available in three variants, with introductory prices starting at ₹2,30,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The mid-spec version, which gets a bi-directional quick-shifter, is priced at ₹2,39,500, while the range-topping YZF-R2M is available at ₹2,53,000.

The motorcycle is offered in five colour options across the range: Metallic Black, Dark Bluish Gray, Matte White Pearl, Racing Blue and an exclusive Metallic Gray for the YZF-R2M.

Yamaha YZF-R2 Engine and Performance

The YZF-R2 is built around a high-tensile steel tube diamond frame weighing 14 kg, helping keep the motorcycle’s overall kerb weight at 149 kg.

Power comes from a newly developed 204cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, four-valve, DOHC engine. The motor produces 26.5 PS of maximum power and 19.1 Nm of peak torque.

The motorcycle comes equipped with a range of electronic and mechanical features aimed at delivering a sporty riding experience. Standard equipment across all three variants includes 37 mm upside-down (USD) front forks, a rear monoshock, dual-channel ABS and traction control.

The YZF-R2 also gets an assist and slipper clutch, 17-inch wheels and Yamaha Ride Control (YRC), offering three riding modes — Street, Sport and Rain. A 5-inch full-colour TFT display serves as the instrument cluster.

Yamaha YZF-R2M Gets Additional Features

The top-spec YZF-R2M receives additional equipment over the standard variants. It gets adjustable front fork and rear damper settings, along with adjustable clutch and brake levers.

The R2M also features a smart key system, a silver-finished swingarm and a faux-suede seat, giving the flagship version a more premium specification.

Yamaha YZF-R2 India Availability

The YZF-R2 will be sold exclusively through Yamaha’s Blue Square (BSQ) retail dealership network in India. Customer deliveries and availability are scheduled to begin from mid-September 2026.

Commenting on the launch, Hajime Aota, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, said the YZF-R2 combines the R-series’ performance-focused character with lightweight construction and fuel efficiency. He added that the motorcycle reflects Yamaha’s confidence in India’s engineering capabilities and the country’s growing importance in the company’s global product strategy.

With its lightweight construction, 204cc engine and supersport-inspired equipment, the YZF-R2 gives Yamaha a new entry point into the R-series performance motorcycle lineup in India.
