Toyota Kirloskar Motor Vellfire Hybrid MPV crosses 5,000 sales milestone in India

The luxury hybrid MPV, which is currently Toyota’s second most expensive passenger vehicle in India after the Toyota Land Cruiser 300, has recorded total wholesales of 5,001 units since its launch in February 2020.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has achieved a significant milestone with cumulative sales of the Toyota Vellfire crossing 5,000 units in the Indian market.

The ultra-luxury hybrid MPV, positioned as Toyota’s second most expensive passenger vehicle in India after the Toyota Land Cruiser 300, has recorded total wholesales of 5,001 units since its launch in February 2020.

The milestone comes just over six years after the first-generation Vellfire entered the Indian market, followed by the introduction of the second-generation model in August 2024.

According to SIAM wholesales data, nearly 55 per cent of the Vellfire’s cumulative sales — amounting to 2,756 units — were achieved in the past 25 months, highlighting the growing demand for luxury MPVs in India.

Luxury MPV Demand Continues to Grow

Priced between Rs 1.20 crore and Rs 1.30 crore (ex-showroom), the Toyota Vellfire has emerged as the most expensive MPV in Toyota’s Indian portfolio.

Despite its premium pricing, demand for the Vellfire has grown steadily, particularly after the launch of the latest-generation model in six-seat and seven-seat configurations.

Sales momentum accelerated sharply in FY2025, when Toyota sold 1,155 units of the Vellfire, registering 189 per cent year-on-year growth compared to 400 units in FY2024.

FY2026 became the model’s strongest financial year yet, with sales increasing to 1,483 units, reflecting 56 per cent annual growth.

The momentum has continued into FY2027, with April 2026 sales reaching 118 units — a 490 per cent increase compared to the same month last year.

Hybrid Powertrain and Luxury-Focused Cabin

The Toyota Vellfire is powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol-hybrid powertrain producing 193hp and 240Nm of torque, paired with an e-CVT automatic transmission.

Toyota claims a fuel efficiency figure of 19.28 kmpl for the hybrid MPV.

The latest-generation Vellfire features a redesigned cabin focused on comfort, technology, and premium passenger experience.

Key interior highlights include:

  • 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Executive Lounge second-row captain seats
  • Ottoman-style reclining rear seats
  • Head-up display
  • Wireless charging
  • Eight-way power-adjustable driver seat
  • Large overhead passenger control console
  • Multiple AC vents and powered sunshades

Built on the same platform as the Lexus LM, the Vellfire measures over five metres in length and offers a spacious, lounge-like cabin experience designed primarily for chauffeur-driven buyers.

Safety and Premium Features

The Vellfire has received a four-star safety rating in Japan NCAP crash tests.

Safety equipment includes:

  • Six airbags
  • ABS with EBD
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • ISOFIX child seat mounts
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with camera and radar-based technologies

The luxury MPV competes with models including the Lexus LM, Kia Carnival, MG M9, and the recently launched Mercedes-Benz V-Class in the premium people-mover segment.

Toyota Strengthens Hybrid Leadership in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor continues to lead India’s strong hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) market with a portfolio that includes the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Toyota Innova Hycross, Toyota Camry, and the Vellfire.

According to Vahan registration data, Toyota delivered 32,648 hybrid electric vehicles between January and April 2026.

While the Vellfire contributes a relatively small share of this total volume, the luxury hybrid MPV continues to attract affluent Indian buyers seeking premium comfort, advanced hybrid technology, and chauffeur-focused luxury mobility.
