Battery Smart, India’s largest battery-swapping network for electric two- and three-wheelers, in collaboration with the Delhi Traffic Police, launched a Road Safety and Traffic Rules Awareness Program for e-rickshaw drivers in Delhi. The initiative educated over 100 drivers on responsible driving, traffic regulations, safe battery handling, and monsoon-specific safety measures, reinforcing safer electric mobility practices.
The event was graced by Shri Ajay Kumar, Executive Magistrate (South West Delhi), representing Shri Lakshay Singhal, IAS, District Magistrate, along with senior officials from the Delhi Traffic Police and Battery Smart’s leadership.
Speaking at the event, Chief Guest, Shri Ajay Kumar, Executive Magistrate, South West Delhi, said, “Creating safer roads starts with building awareness and responsible driving behaviour among all road users. Initiatives like this are important in translating that awareness into action by bridging on-ground knowledge gaps. By focusing on e-rickshaw drivers, who form a significant part of Delhi’s mobility ecosystem, Battery Smart and the Delhi Traffic Police have taken a proactive step toward strengthening safe driving habits and reinforcing traffic discipline. Such collaborative and community-focused efforts are essential to building safer roads.”
Commenting on the initiative, Capt. Hamendra Sharma, VP, Special Operations, Battery Smart said, “E-rickshaw drivers are the frontline enablers of India’s electric mobility revolution, playing a vital role in delivering clean and affordable last-mile transport in our cities. At Battery Smart, we are committed to supporting them not just through our battery-swapping network, but also by creating awareness on safer on-road practices. This initiative, in collaboration with the Delhi Traffic Police, is a step towards building a safer and more responsible EV ecosystem. Through structured training and awareness programs, we aim to promote safer on-road behaviour, strengthen public trust in e-mobility, and create a more secure and sustainable urban commute for all.”
The interactive session included hands-on training led by instructors from the Delhi Traffic Police and Battery Smart’s on-ground teams. It covered real-life case studies, responsible driving, battery handling fundamentals, electrical safety and safe parking practices—all tailored to the daily challenges of e-rickshaw drivers. The event also featured a felicitation and certificate ceremony, recognizing drivers who demonstrated exemplary commitment to road safety.
At Battery Smart, driver and station partner safety is a top priority. All drivers undergo a mandatory safety training module during onboarding, supplemented by ongoing campaigns and educational outreach throughout the year.
