Tesla appoints Vaibhav Taneja as new CFO

Vaibhav Taneja has over 17 years of experience in working with multinational companies in the sectors of technology, retail and telecommunication. Taneja’s appointment comes as Elon Musk’s Tesla is looking to grab a foothold in the Indian market.

Tesla, an automotive and energy company appointed the Indian-origin Vaibhav Taneja as Chief Financial Officer. He will take over as the CFO in addition to his current role as Chief Accounting Officer.

Taneja succeeds Zachary Kirkhorn who steps down after a thirteen-year tenure with the company. Taneja joined the Texas-headquartered firm Tesla in 2018 as Assistant Corporate Controller. The 45-year-old Taneja previously served in various finance and accounting roles at SolarCity Corporation and at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in India and the US. He is a chartered accountant of 2000 batch.

“Kirkhorn will continue to serve Tesla through the end of the year to support a seamless transition,” stated the company’s regulatory statement. Kirkhorn served as ‘Master of Coin’ and Chief Financial Officer.

“Effective as of March 15, 2021, the titles of Elon Musk and Zach Kirkhorn have changed to Technoking of Tesla and Master of Coin, respectively. Elon and Zach will also maintain their respective positions as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer,” the company stated in a March 2021 regulatory filing.
