Passenger vehicle dispatches rose 34.3% YoY to 4,57,810 units in July 2026, while two- and three-wheeler sales also recorded strong growth, SIAM said.

India’s automobile industry recorded its strongest-ever July sales performance in 2026, with passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers registering strong double-digit growth, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers rose 34.3% year-on-year (YoY) to a record 4,57,810 units in July 2026, compared with 3,40,772 units in July 2025.

Across major vehicle categories, the industry dispatched a total of 33,70,958 units during the month.

Two-Wheeler Sales Rise 22.6%

Two-wheeler sales increased 22.6% YoY to 19,23,483 units in July 2026.

Motorcycle sales grew 20.7% to 10,74,796 units, while scooter sales increased 23.7% to 7,98,190 units. Moped sales recorded the highest growth among the two-wheeler categories, rising 48.6% to 50,497 units.

Three-Wheeler Sales Grow 33.4%

Three-wheeler sales climbed 33.4% YoY to 92,560 units during July.

Passenger carriers accounted for 77,994 units, registering 32.9% growth, while goods carriers increased 40.3% to 12,896 units.

Within the segment, e-rickshaw sales grew 7.5%, while e-cart sales increased 16.2%.

SIAM Sees Positive Festive Season Momentum

Commenting on the July performance, Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, said the industry delivered its strongest-ever July sales, with robust double-digit growth across passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers.

He noted that passenger vehicle sales grew 34.3% to 4.58 lakh units, three-wheelers increased 33.4% to 0.93 lakh units and two-wheelers rose 22.6% to 19.23 lakh units compared with July 2025.

According to Menon, the positive momentum has continued over several months as the industry enters the festive season, with expectations of strong consumer sentiment.

The July performance provides a strong start to the festive period, with manufacturers and dealers expecting sustained demand across India’s automobile market.
