India’s eCV retail market accelerates in April 2026 despite monthly slowdown

Total eCV retail sales stood at 2,245 units in April 2026, marking a significant 148.9 percent increase over 902 units sold in April 2025. However, on a month-on-month basis, volumes declined 8.7 percent from 2,459 units retailed in March 2026.

India’s electric commercial vehicle (eCV) retail market witnessed strong year-on-year growth in April 2026, even as sales volumes declined slightly compared to the previous month, according to the latest retail data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).

Total eCV retail sales reached 2,245 units in April 2026, marking a sharp 148.9 percent increase from 902 units sold during the same month last year. However, sales fell 8.7 percent sequentially from 2,459 units recorded in March 2026.

Despite the monthly decline in volumes, electric commercial vehicles continued to hold more than a 2 percent share of the overall commercial vehicle market. The segment accounted for 2.26 percent of total CV retail sales in April 2026, slightly lower than the 2.40 percent market share recorded in March 2026 but significantly higher than the 1.04 percent share seen in April 2025.

The retail data was compiled from 1,463 out of 1,466 RTOs as of May 3, 2026, excluding Telangana.

Tata Motors Maintains Leadership Position

Tata Motors remained the leading player in the electric commercial vehicle segment, retailing 799 units in April 2026. The company posted a robust 201.5 percent year-on-year increase compared to 265 units sold in April 2025. On a month-on-month basis, however, sales declined 7.52 percent from 864 units in March 2026.

The performance helped Tata Motors retain the largest share of the eCV retail market during the month.

Euler Motors Registers Strongest Growth

Euler Motors emerged as one of the standout performers in April 2026. The company retailed 518 electric commercial vehicles, a substantial rise from just 38 units in April 2025, translating into a massive 1,263.2 percent year-on-year growth.

Unlike many other OEMs, Euler Motors also recorded sequential growth, with April sales increasing 10.45 percent from 469 units sold in March 2026.

Mahindra Reports Stable Expansion

Mahindra Group secured the third position in the market with 285 units retailed during April 2026. This represented a 69.6 percent increase compared to 168 units sold a year ago. Sequentially, sales rose 6.34 percent from 268 units in March 2026.

The reported volumes were contributed entirely by Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Ltd.

Switch Mobility and JBM Auto Face Monthly Declines

Switch Mobility Automotive retailed 144 units in April 2026, reflecting strong annual growth of 311.4 percent over April 2025 volumes. However, the company experienced a steep 44.19 percent decline compared to 258 units sold in March 2026.

JBM Auto also witnessed a significant month-on-month drop. The company retailed 54 units in April 2026, down 72.45 percent from 196 units in March. Despite the decline, volumes remained 35 percent higher than April 2025 levels.

PMI Electro Mobility Sees Lower Volumes

PMI Electro Mobility Solutions recorded retail sales of 111 units in April 2026, down 41 percent from 188 units sold during the same period last year. Sequentially, volumes also declined 9.76 percent from 123 units sold in March 2026.

VE Commercial Vehicles reported comparatively stable sales performance, retailing 38 units during the month. This was marginally lower than the 39 units sold in April 2025, reflecting a 2.6 percent decline year-on-year, while monthly volumes improved 11.76 percent from March.

Emerging OEMs Continue to Expand

Several emerging players continued to strengthen their presence in the electric commercial vehicle market.

Tivolt Electric Vehicles retailed 83 units in April 2026, compared to 9 units in April 2025, recording an 822.2 percent year-on-year increase.

Pinnacle Mobility Solutions sold 54 units during the month, representing a 440 percent rise over April 2025 volumes and a 42.11 percent increase compared to March 2026.

Energy In Motion retailed 34 units in April, up from 21 units in March, while Aeroeagle Automobiles reported 28 units, increasing from 22 units in the previous month. Year-on-year comparisons were unavailable for both companies due to the absence of April 2025 data.

eCV Market Share Stays Above 2 Percent

Although retail volumes softened sequentially during April, the electric commercial vehicle segment maintained a market penetration level above 2 percent.

The strong year-on-year growth highlights ongoing electrification across last-mile delivery, passenger transport, and municipal mobility applications, even as monthly demand trends continue to fluctuate across manufacturers and operational segments.
