Three Honda models, including the all-new 2026 Honda Passport and multiple generations of the Civic and Accord, have been recommended for teen drivers by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Consumer Reports.

The 2026 Honda Passport has been recognised as a recommended new vehicle for teen drivers, highlighting its safety credentials and suitability for younger motorists.

For buyers seeking used vehicles that provide strong crash protection and affordability, IIHS and Consumer Reports recommended Honda Civic coupe and sedan models from 2014 to 2025, with some models available for under $10,000.

The organisations also recommended Honda Accord sedan models from 2013 to 2025, including hybrid variants from 2014 to 2025, with starting prices below $20,000 for certain used models.

The recommendations are based on factors including crash safety performance, reliability, affordability and suitability for inexperienced drivers.

IIHS and CR jointly produce the annual list of teen vehicles to assist families shopping for a car that can help keep a new driver safe. All vehicles on the list earned scores of average or better from CR for braking, and for emergency and routine handling. Usability is also considered, and models with the most confusing and distracting controls and displays are excluded.

Recommended vehicles also provide strong protection in a crash, based on IIHS testing. The all-new 2026 Passport earned the pinnacle TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating from IIHS and Safety Verdict of Best from CR.

Based on the longstanding Honda “Safety for Everyone” approach, a commitment to advance safety for everyone sharing the road, Honda has installed the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies in more than 10 million vehicles in the U.S. since the suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies was introduced in 2014. Honda Sensing® is a significant value for used car buyers, offering the benefits of safety and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

Research shows that risky behavior, such as distracted driving, especially with young drivers, contributes to almost half of the traffic fatalities in America. This makes Honda Sensing a significant benefit to young and first time buyers where affordability is a more significant issue. The early application of ADAS technologies Honda began in 2014 to popular models like the Honda CR-V – and its push to make this suite standard on most vehicles by 2022 – means many Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) and used Honda vehicles now come equipped with these safety and driver-assistive features.

Every new 2026 Honda model, including the Passport, is equipped with Honda Sensing® that includes a Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

The 2014-2025 Honda Civic, 2013-2025 Accord and 2026 Passport also benefit from the Honda proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, designed to help protect occupants in a wide variety of frontal collisions.

Even as Honda engineers continue to advance vehicle design and performance, the company believes technology alone is not enough to achieve its challenging goal of zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles by 2050. The Honda safety strategy is committed to further advancing safety for everyone sharing the road through three domains: advancing technology, augmenting safety awareness efforts to influence driver behavior, and working with government, industry and community partners to improve the traffic safety ecosystem. In other words, Honda is seeking to achieve Safety for Everyone, with everyone.
