Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, a four-door electric GT that becomes the brand’s first production model based on its dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Revealed in New York on October 6, the electric GT is scheduled to enter production in the UK in 2027.
The Type 01 uses an 850-volt electrical architecture with a 118kWh usable battery. Jaguar claims an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles, while its sustained highway-speed range is rated at up to 320 miles. Using a 350kW DC charger, the company says the battery can gain up to 200 miles of range in 13 minutes.
Power comes from a tri-motor setup with Intelligent Torque Vectoring, developing up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm. Jaguar claims the Type 01 can accelerate from 0-62mph (0-100kph) in 3.2 seconds, while 62-112mph (100-180kph) takes 4.0 seconds.
The Type 01 is the first production Jaguar developed on the dedicated JEA platform, which was designed specifically around the proportions and dynamics of the four-door GT. The car has a claimed 50:50 weight distribution and a body structure developed around its electric powertrain.
Jaguar says the Type 01 has more than 360 patent applications associated with its engineering. Its aerodynamic package includes active vanes and a three-stage deployable spoiler, along with other airflow optimisation measures that result in a claimed drag coefficient of 0.23.
The electric GT features a low roofline, long bonnet, short front overhang and extended rear overhang, along with 23-inch wheels. Inside, a central spine runs through the cabin and separates it into four individual spaces.
Production is scheduled to begin at JLR’s Solihull facility in 2027. The electric drive units and battery packs will be manufactured in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will be produced at Halewood in Merseyside. JLR says work on the production lines is already at an advanced stage.
The company has also retrained nearly 9,000 employees at Solihull to build electric vehicles, with another 1,500 employees trained across its wider West Midlands operations.
Orders for the Jaguar Type 01 are expected to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries planned for the second half of the year.
Inside, the Type 01 gets a 24-inch single-glass OLED driver display and a separate seven-inch touchscreen positioned between the driver and front passenger. The larger screen runs Jaguar’s new infotainment system, while the smaller display is intended for commonly used functions.
Other cabin highlights include a full-width Panoramic Soundbar, Jaguar’s Immersive Sound System and Sensory Audio seats.
Designed, engineered and manufactured in Britain, the Type 01 is positioned as the first model in Jaguar’s new generation of all-electric vehicles. Its name references Jaguar’s earlier Type models, with “0” representing zero tailpipe emissions and “1” marking the first model of the new generation.
