Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the updated EQA and EQB models, focusing on boosting efficiency and extending the driving range up to 560 km according to the WLTP standard. These enhancements are achieved through a series of measures, including advanced aerodynamic optimization techniques. Mercedes-Benz is also aiming to enhance the charging experience with the introduction of the Plug & Charge function within the latest EQA and EQB models.
One of the key innovations is the integration of a new leading edge for the rear wheel arch, designed to enhance aerodynamics. The taillights now feature a ridge that acts as a spoiler, further contributing to the vehicle’s streamlined performance. Additionally, the introduction of 235/55 R 18 tires with optimized rolling resistance provides a noticeable enhancement to overall efficiency. These summer tyres come as standard in various European markets.
The introduction of the “range monitoring” function adds a practical dimension to everyday driving. Activated through the MBUX system, this feature offers several energy-saving options displayed on the central screen. Recommendations include selecting the ECO driving program, utilizing the DAuto mode, and engaging the ECO+ climate control function. A particular addition is the display of a maximum driving speed that helps avoid unnecessary charge stops, indicated by a red line on the speedometer. Notably, the Active Distance Assist Distronic (available as an optional extra) and cruise control systems seamlessly align with the recommended speed, calculated in real-time through cloud-based processing.
Mercedes-Benz also introduced a new feature to the EQA and EQB models called ‘Sound Experiences’. Initially present in larger electric models, these ‘Sound Experiences’ come in collaboration with the optional Burmester surround sound system.
Drivers can select between distinct acoustic settings, each conveying a unique atmosphere. “Silver Waves” presents a sensual and crisp sound, while “Vivid Flux” caters to electric vehicle enthusiasts with a crystalline, synthetic, and warmly human tone. The Sound Experiences can be easily activated or deactivated via the central display.
The Plug & Charge function streamlines charging at Plug & Charge-enabled public charging points. Once the charging cable is connected, the charging process initiates automatically, eliminating the need for additional authentication steps. The seamless communication between the vehicle and the charging station occurs through the charging cable. To access this feature, customers simply need to activate the Plug & Charge service within their service overview.
‘Mercedes me Charge’, in partnership with Ionity and Aral, grants access to an extensive charging network across Europe. With over 1.3 million AC and DC charging points, including more than 500,000 in Europe, customers can rely on Green Charging powered by renewable energy sources. Mercedes me Charge guarantees that the energy used for charging is subsequently offset by renewable resources, certified by high-quality origin certificates. The commitment to sustainability extends to exclusive charging points powered entirely by green electricity, a joint initiative with the Ionity fast-charging network.
