Isuzu Motors Limited has officially commenced production of its first battery electric vehicle, the D-MAX EV, a one-ton electric pickup, at the Samrong Plant of Isuzu Motors Thailand in Samut Prakan Province on April 28.
The D-MAX EV, first showcased at the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show in March last year, received strong interest for early commercialization. With mass production of the left-hand drive model now underway, shipments to major European markets will begin soon. Production of the right-hand drive version is set to start by the end of this year, with UK sales planned for 2026. Isuzu aims to gradually expand global rollout based on market demands, vehicle usage, and local infrastructure conditions.
The D-MAX EV retains the structure of the existing diesel engine model, but by adopting a full-time 4WD system that combines newly developed e-axles at the front and rear, it is a full-fledged BEV pickup truck that combines the tough basic performance required of a pickup truck (durability, payload and towing performance, and off-road performance) with the linear acceleration and low noise and vibration unique to BEVs.
Isuzu will proactively take on the challenge of realizing a global carbon neutral (CN) society and contribute to enriching people’s lives by developing and introducing CN vehicles to the market.
