At the recently concluded Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress 2025 in Atlanta, India demonstrated its growing expertise in ITS with advancements in tolling, road safety, and connected mobility. The showcase highlighted the nation’s commitment to setting global standards in smart, efficient, and sustainable transportation.
The ITS World Congress 2025 welcomed over 5,600 delegates, 224 exhibitors, and representatives from 57 countries. Held under the theme “Deploying Today, Empowering Tomorrow,” the event served as the world’s premier platform for intelligent transport systems (ITS) and smart mobility.
For the first time in the history of the Congress, the ITS India Forum—an apex body dedicated to advancing intelligent transport systems in India—unveiled a dedicated India Pavilion and hosted an exclusive panel discussion on “ITS in India.”
“The India Pavilion, inaugurated at the Georgia World Congress Center, has already become a focal point of attention. Designed as a dynamic hub of ideas and collaboration, the Pavilion highlighted the country’s rapid journey from pilot projects to nationwide ITS deployment. It showcased breakthrough Solutions from the transformative FASTag program to the next leap with ANPR-FASTag based Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling, India presented technologies that combine digital innovation with real-world scale.” Said Mr. Akhilesh Srivastava, President, International Road Federation -India Chapter (IRF-IC) and an eminent ITS expert .
“India showcased Road Safety measures, Safe Driving Scores, AI-enabled enforcement, and connected vehicle alerts aimed at reducing India’s road fatalities. For Connected and Sustainable Mobility – India’s demonstrations of V2X pilots, multimodal integration, and EV-friendly infrastructure reflect its strong alignment with Net Zero 2070 pathways.” Mr Srivastava said.
“We also showcased India’s progress in AI-driven traffic management, multimodal transport integration, and EV adoption, with direct impacts on congestion and efficiency. The Government Push, Policy initiatives spanning digital highways, smart cities, EV expansion, and logistics corridors provide fertile ground for ITS adoption. These factors together make India a natural leader in defining the future of global ITS.” he added
