Lexus unveils Next-Generation Interface with 5G Connectivity

The next-generation Lexus Interface is designed to deliver a smarter, faster, and more personalized luxury driving experience.

Lexus has revealed its next-generation Lexus Interface multimedia system, introducing a major leap in in-cabin technology with enhanced connectivity, deeper personalisation, improved navigation, and expanded entertainment features. The upgraded system will debut in the 2026 ES before gradually rolling out across future Lexus models.

According to Brian Inouye, Chief Engineer of the Connected Experiences Division, the updated platform has been designed to deliver a more intuitive and engaging user experience with significant improvements in functionality and performance.

One of the biggest highlights is Lexus’ first integration of AT&T 5G connectivity, enabling faster response times, improved cloud-based services, and expanded multimedia capabilities across North America.

The new Lexus Interface features a redesigned user experience displayed on the 2026 ES’ standard 14-inch touchscreen. Improved on-device computing power delivers quicker touchscreen responses, while crisp graphics and intuitive icons aim to create a more seamless interaction for drivers and passengers.

Personalisation has also been significantly expanded. Users can now configure the home screen with customizable widgets for navigation, drive modes, audio, connected devices, and weather updates. Widgets can be grouped into different layouts for easier access to frequently used functions.

Lexus has additionally introduced a Quick Control Menu that remains permanently accessible from the upper-right corner of the display. This menu offers shortcuts for Bluetooth connectivity, screen brightness, dark mode settings, and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) controls.

The cabin experience is further enhanced with over 64 ambient lighting options, allowing occupants to tailor the interior mood according to their preferences. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support continue to be offered as standard compatibility features.

Voice control capabilities have also been upgraded through a new embedded on-device solution. The enhanced Lexus Voice Assistant now responds faster and supports multiple wake phrases such as “Hey Lexus,” “Hi Lexus,” and “Okay Lexus.” Drivers can control audio, climate settings, navigation, and even perform basic arithmetic through voice commands. Lexus is also introducing male and female voice assistant options for the first time.

Navigation receives a major upgrade with tighter integration between the multimedia system and the multi-information display (MID). Native navigation maps and turn-by-turn guidance can now be viewed directly behind the steering wheel for improved visibility.

Cloud-based navigation services under Drive Connect provide access to live traffic updates, route assistance, and destination support through a subscription-based service.

The latest Lexus Interface also debuts an integrated Drive Recorder feature that functions as a built-in dashcam system using the vehicle’s external cameras. The system continuously stores looping video footage while also saving clips during incidents such as impacts, hard braking, or airbag deployment.

For battery electric vehicles such as the 2026 Lexus ES 350e and ES 500e, Lexus has introduced EV Charge Management tools directly within the multimedia interface. Users can schedule charging sessions, manage charge limits, and access EV Routing features that display charger availability, station details, and battery range predictions.

Remote functionality has also been enhanced through the Lexus app. With Remote Connect, users can remotely operate climate controls, headlights, hazard lights, trunk access, and scheduled starts. Enhanced Digital Key functionality allows compatible smartphones to lock, unlock, start, and operate the vehicle while also enabling key-sharing access for up to five additional users.

Entertainment options have been expanded as well. Available SiriusXM with 360L combines satellite and streaming content into a personalized listening experience, while integrated streaming now includes Spotify support for music, podcasts, and audiobooks through the vehicle’s built-in Wi-Fi connection.

The latest Lexus Interface platform is built using Automotive Grade Linux, open-source software, and Woven by Toyota’s Arene software development platform. The system represents a collaborative effort between Toyota Motor North America’s Connected Experiences Division and Toyota Connected North America.

Originally introduced on the 2022 Lexus NX, the Lexus Interface has evolved through continuous feedback from customers, dealers, and real-world usage, paving the way for Lexus’ next generation of connected mobility experiences.
