Jaguar has officially confirmed the name of its upcoming luxury four-door electric GT — the Jaguar Type 01 — marking the beginning of a new era for the iconic British brand.
The new naming strategy reflects Jaguar’s heritage while signalling its transformation into an all-electric luxury marque. According to the company, the “Type” designation pays tribute to legendary Jaguar models such as the C-Type, E-Type, and F-TYPE, while the “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions and the “1” signifies the first model in Jaguar’s next-generation lineup.
Designed, developed, and built in the UK, the Jaguar Type 01 has been created to embody the brand’s renewed focus on originality, advanced technology, and high-performance electric mobility.
Jaguar says the upcoming GT will feature a completely new body architecture aimed at delivering a distinctive visual identity and driving experience unlike any other electric vehicle in the segment. The car will also introduce bold linear graphics and a new signature strikethrough motif positioned where the bonnet meets the windscreen.
Performance will be a key highlight of the Type 01, with Jaguar confirming a tri-motor electric powertrain producing more than 1,000PS and over 1,300Nm of torque.
Rawdon Glover said the Type 01 name reflects the company’s complete brand reset and represents the first chapter of Jaguar’s next-generation product strategy. He added that the vehicle has been engineered to deliver a unique blend of design, performance, and driving character while staying connected to Jaguar’s heritage.
Ahead of its official reveal later this year, Jaguar Type 01 prototypes will appear on the streets of Monaco wearing a distinctive camouflage wrap during the Monaco E-Prix weekend, alongside the participation of Jaguar TCS Racing in Formula E.
Jaguar stated that the Type 01’s modernist design language, advanced technology, and dynamic driving characteristics will form the foundation for future Jaguar models.
