Mahindra has expanded the seating options of its electric SUV, the XEV 9S, with the introduction of a new six-seater configuration featuring individual captain seats in the second row. The new layout will be available on the Pack Two Above, Pack Three and Pack Three Above variants.
The addition of captain seats gives XEV 9S buyers an alternative to the standard seven-seat configuration. The individually contoured second-row seats are designed to provide greater comfort and a more premium, chauffeur-style experience, particularly for buyers who prioritise rear-seat comfort over maximum seating capacity.
XEV 9S Gets New 6-Seater Configuration
The XEV 9S is Mahindra’s first three-row electric SUV and is built on the company’s INGLO electric skateboard platform. The model was unveiled in November 2025 and launched in India with prices starting at around ₹19.95 lakh (ex-showroom).
With the new configuration, customers opting for the eligible variants can choose between the existing seven-seat bench layout and the new six-seat arrangement with second-row captain seats.
The XEV 9S is positioned as a family-focused electric SUV and competes with models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric and Tata Harrier EV.
Battery and Range Options
Mahindra offers the XEV 9S with 59kWh, 70kWh and 79kWh battery packs, all paired with a rear-wheel-drive electric motor. The largest battery pack delivers a claimed range of close to 680km on a single charge.
The SUV comes equipped with a range of premium features, including a sliding and reclining second row, a triple 12.3-inch screen setup, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos, a panoramic sunroof and Level 2+ driver-assistance technology on higher variants.
XEV 9S Shares Technology with XEV 9e
The XEV 9S shares its platform and several cabin elements with the five-seater XEV 9e. However, Mahindra positions the two electric SUVs for different customer requirements. While the XEV 9e is targeted at smaller families, the XEV 9S focuses on larger families seeking additional seating capacity and flexibility.
The new captain-seat option further broadens the XEV 9S’s appeal by offering a more premium second-row experience without compromising the SUV’s overall three-row practicality.
Captain Seats Add More Choice for Buyers
Mahindra has previously offered a six-seat captain-seat configuration on the XUV700, which was introduced in 2024. The new XEV 9S seating option follows a similar approach, although Mahindra has not yet confirmed whether the new captain seats will feature functions such as ventilation or reclining.
With the latest update, buyers of the Pack Two Above, Pack Three and Pack Three Above variants can now choose between the standard seven-seat configuration and the new six-seat captain-seat layout, giving customers greater flexibility when configuring the electric SUV.
