BYD has filed new design patents for its upcoming vehicles in India. A filing in September was for the Bao 3 EV, followed by another in October for the Denza N9 PHEV. This comes just ahead of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025, where BYD has confirmed its participation. However, the company has yet to officially announce details regarding the presentations of these two EVs.
Denza, a luxury new energy vehicle (NEV) brand owned by BYD and based in Shenzhen, China, has the N9 model, which features a 3.1-meter-long wheelbase and measures 5.2 meters in length, placing it in the same size category as the Mercedes GLS. The Denza N9 is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), according to its listing on China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website.
The N9 PHEV combines internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric powertrains. The combustion engine is a 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit producing up to 206hp, while the electric setup delivers a combined 924hp from a front-axle motor and two rear-wheel motors. Its 47kWh blade-cell battery offers a range of 165 kilometers. Additionally, an all-electric version of the N9 features a similar three-motor configuration, with a maximum output of 965hp.
The Bao 3 electric SUV is developed by BYD’s Fangchengbao subsidiary, which focuses on off-road vehicles. Based on the Super 3 concept car, the 4.6-meter-long SUV will be positioned above the Atto 3 (4.4 meters). It features front (149hp) and rear (299hp) electric motors that mimic a four-wheel-drive (4WD) setup. The Bao 3 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 201 km/h. BYD has also filed a design patent for the SUV with a roof-mounted carrier.
At the upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo, BYD will showcase its current electric vehicle lineup and other new energy vehicles (NEVs). Stay tuned to see if the BYD Denza N9 and Bao 3 make an appearance at the event next month.
