Renault India records strong April sales growth driven by Duster comeback

Renault India has reported strong sales momentum in April 2026, with domestic sales rising 108% year-on-year following the relaunch of the Renault Duster.

Renault India reported a sharp 108% year-on-year increase in domestic sales in April 2026, supported by the return of the iconic Renault Duster SUV and the company’s renewed focus on India’s fast-growing utility vehicle segment.

According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Renault India’s domestic sales rose to 5,413 units in April 2026, compared to 2,602 units during the same month last year.

The automaker attributed the strong performance to the positive market response for the all-new Renault Duster, which was relaunched earlier this year.

Production and exports witness strong growth

Renault India also significantly increased production levels to meet anticipated demand for the SUV.

The company’s production surged more than fivefold to 9,333 units in April 2026, compared to 1,787 units in April 2025. The Renault Duster is manufactured at the company’s Chennai facility, where Renault has previously indicated there is scope for additional capacity expansion if required.

Exports also recorded substantial growth, nearly tripling from 378 units in April 2025 to 991 units last month, driven by overseas shipments of the locally produced Duster.

François Provost, Chief Executive Officer of Renault Group, had earlier stated that India is expected to evolve into both a key growth market and an export hub for the company’s global operations.

Duster revival supports Renault’s India growth strategy

The latest momentum aligns with Renault’s “futuREady India” strategy, under which the company aims to make India one of its top three global markets by 2030.

As part of this roadmap, Renault plans to introduce seven multi-energy vehicles tailored for Indian consumers before the end of the decade.

The return of the Renault Duster also marks an important moment for the brand in India. First launched on July 4, 2012, the SUV played a major role in shaping India’s modern compact SUV segment through its rugged styling and monocoque construction.

The model remained one of Renault’s key products in India before being discontinued in 2022 amid rising competition in the SUV market.

With its 2026 relaunch, Renault is aiming to leverage both the Duster’s strong brand recall and competitive pricing strategy to strengthen its position in India’s highly competitive SUV segment.

The all-new Renault Duster has been introduced at a starting price of ₹10.49 lakh, with the company targeting customers seeking a blend of practicality, affordability, and SUV appeal.
