Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been allocated 827 acres of land in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, for the establishment of a new manufacturing plant, according to an official announcement made on Monday. TKM had earlier signed an agreement with the Maharashtra state government on July 31 to set up a greenfield facility focused on producing electric and hybrid vehicles.
The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) official explained that the land is part of a smart industrial city being developed as a joint venture between the Central and Maharashtra governments through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) called Maharashtra Industrial Township Limited (MITL). The Shendra and Bidkin nodes of this industrial city are in development, with the Bidkin node now attracting major investments.
“Today, 827 acres of land were allotted to Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited in the Bidkin node,” the official said. TKM plans to invest INR 21,000 crore in this manufacturing plant, with construction set to begin soon. Production is expected to commence in January 2026.
The project is expected to create 8,000 direct jobs and 18,000 indirect jobs. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde previously stated that the plant will have an annual production capacity of 4 lakh electric and hybrid vehicles, positioning it to transform the automobile sector with an estimated investment of INR 20,000 crore.
