MAHLE has developed a high-performance electronic cooling unit for Infineon’s new EasyPACK S power module, marking another step in the company’s expansion beyond the automotive sector. The solution is designed to deliver efficient thermal management for high-power electronic applications, including power supply systems used in data centers.
Developed in collaboration with semiconductor manufacturer Infineon, the compact cooling unit is engineered specifically to meet the thermal requirements of the new EasyPACK S module. By efficiently dissipating heat generated by high-current electronic systems, the solution enhances module performance, reliability, and long-term durability.
The cooling unit enables the new EasyPACK S module to deliver significantly higher performance than its predecessors while helping improve operational endurance. According to MAHLE, the collaboration highlights the company’s ability to transfer its decades of expertise in automotive thermal management to fast-growing industrial and electronics applications.
Compact in design—roughly the size of two stacked chocolate bars—the cooling unit is mounted directly onto the circuit board. It uses a liquid coolant to efficiently remove heat from the power module, ensuring stable operation even in demanding, high-performance environments such as modern data centers.
The project underscores MAHLE’s strategy of expanding its non-automotive business by applying its proven thermal management technologies to emerging sectors, including data centers, industrial electronics, and power semiconductor applications.
The project was completed with remarkable speed. Within just four months, the first prototypes were produced and supplied. These are now in the process of testing and validation by Infineon. This dynamic performance confirms the strength of the partnership and lays the foundation for further joint innovation projects.
As part of Group Sales, MAHLE recently consolidated its non-automotive activities into a new Industrial and Special Solutions unit. This will enable the group to address new customers more effectively. A customer-focused technical sales approach, combined with application development expertise, significantly accelerates the development of tailor-made customer solutions. The areas of production, logistics, purchasing and quality are also linked more closely. This way, available plant capacity can be used more effectively for Industrial and Special Solutions business.
