Vimag Labs begins manufacturing at Haryana facility, Plans ₹50 crore investment

The facility manufactures and assembles motors, control systems and related propulsion systems, including the company's proprietary magnet-free motor technology. Vimag has already completed and exported its first production batch from the site.

Vimag Labs has commenced operations at its first manufacturing facility at MET City in Jhajjar, Haryana, marking a key step in the company’s plans to expand the production of advanced propulsion technologies in India.

The facility manufactures and assembles motors, control systems and related propulsion systems, including Vimag’s proprietary magnet-free motor technology. It is equipped with testing infrastructure and advanced production systems to support manufacturing and product validation. The company has already completed and exported its first production batch from the Jhajjar facility.

Vimag Labs currently plans to invest approximately ₹50 crore across a phased manufacturing expansion in India. The investment will be deployed progressively in line with customer programmes, product volumes and capacity requirements. The company said the overall investment may evolve depending on market traction and opportunities for expansion.

The Jhajjar facility serves as the starting point for Vimag’s broader manufacturing strategy, which aims to develop and industrialise advanced propulsion technologies in India for customers in domestic and international markets.

As part of its expansion plans, Vimag is evaluating additional manufacturing capacity and potential locations while developing a network of manufacturing, supply-chain and industrialisation partners across the country. The objective is to establish a flexible India-based production network that can scale with customer demand and support both domestic and global programmes.

Currently, the Jhajjar facility covers 10,000 sq. ft., with the ability to expand to approximately 20,000 sq. ft. The initial phase is focused on industrialisation, process validation and serial production of mid-power motor and control systems. The manufacturing setup includes clean-room areas, digitally connected production systems, Industry 4.0 and IoT-enabled monitoring, traceability and a highly automated production line. The objective is to combine advanced motor and control technology with repeatable, scalable and quality-controlled manufacturing rather than operate as a conventional assembly facility.

Manish Seth, Co-founder and CEO, Vimag Labs, said: “The commencement of manufacturing marks an important transition for Vimag from technology development and validation into industrialisation and serial production. Jhajjar is the first step in a broader manufacturing build-out. We are currently planning around Rs 50 crore of investment, to be deployed in phases as customer programmes, traction and product requirements develop. The scale and timing of investment will evolve with demand as we build capacity and deepen our manufacturing base. The first production batch has already been exported from Jhajjar, demonstrating that the facility has moved into commercial manufacturing.”

He added, “Our initial focus is on scaling mid-power motor and control systems for commercial programmes. As customer programmes mature, we plan to extend manufacturing into high-power systems of 570 kW and above and deepen partnerships across India for manufacturing, supply chain, tooling and industrialisation. Our long-term goal is to build a globally competitive production base in India for domestic and international customers.”

Vimag Labs is developing its manufacturing capabilities to scale production to a capacity of up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month as customer programme volumes increase. The company’s initial focus is on mid-power applications across electric mobility and other electrified systems. It also plans to introduce higher-power motor and control systems rated at 570 kW and above as customer programmes and product requirements evolve. These applications will require additional manufacturing, testing and industrialisation infrastructure, with capacity expansion planned across locations in line with customer demand and product mix.

Vimag is already working with multiple customers and industry partners across vehicle categories and application segments. Its phased manufacturing expansion is intended to support existing programmes while preparing for future production requirements.

As the manufacturing network expands, the company expects to generate approximately 100–150 direct and indirect employment opportunities across manufacturing, quality, testing, engineering, supply chain and operations. Local recruitment is expected to play an important role in meeting its workforce requirements.

Vimag Labs recently raised US$5 million in a Series A funding round led by Accel, with participation from Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate. The company has also signed a manufacturing memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jendamark Pvt. Ltd. to support the scale-up of its VMSM production.

In parallel, Vimag is developing an India-wide network of manufacturing, component, tooling and industrialisation partners to support production for domestic and international customers. The company has also secured an exclusive US technology licensing, manufacturing and commercialisation agreement for a production-ready bidirectional high-voltage inverter platform capable of operating at voltages of up to 1,000 volts.
