Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has unveiled the all-new, third-generation LEAF—an electric vehicle shaped by over 15 years of real-world experience and nearly 700,000 global sales. Designed to appeal not only to EV enthusiasts but also to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) drivers, the latest LEAF offers a significantly extended range, faster charging, and a suite of smart technologies that simplify daily driving and elevate the overall ownership experience.
Set to arrive at U.S. dealerships this autumn, with launches in other markets to follow, the all-new LEAF delivers on Nissan’s vision of innovation and sustainability. “The Nissan LEAF reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability,” said Ivan Espinosa, Nissan’s President and CEO. “The original LEAF helped mainstream electric vehicles, and this third generation encourages more consumers to adopt the EV lifestyle with its impressive performance, bold design, and cutting-edge features. It plays a vital role in our Re:Nissan action plan.”
The all-new Nissan LEAF showcases the brand’s Timeless Japanese Futurism design philosophy, blending minimalist elegance with a strikingly modern aesthetic. This new-generation LEAF integrates a distinctive “ni-san” geometric motif—formed by two vertical and three horizontal rectangles—used throughout the exterior and interior. Not only does this pattern phonetically represent the name “Nissan,” but it also marks a bold new chapter in the brand’s design evolution.
The vehicle’s fastback-inspired silhouette, along with flush-mounted front door handles, aero-optimized wheels, and a flat underbody, contribute to its sleek and confident stance. These elements also enhance aerodynamic efficiency, giving the LEAF a drag coefficient of 0.26 in U.S. and Japanese models, and an even lower 0.25 for European variants.
Up front, sharp daytime running lights highlight an evolved V-motion grille, while select trims feature a hood-length lightbar positioned above an illuminated Nissan emblem, depending on the region. At the rear, 3D holographic tail lamps create a futuristic “digital Zen” visual effect, adding to the LEAF’s dynamic presence. Bold 19-inch alloy wheels further elevate the all-new LEAF’s standout street appeal.
The all-new LEAF delivers a responsive, ultra-smooth drive. The all-new, 3-in-1 EV powertrain with an integrated motor, inverter and reducer is 10% smaller than its predecessor and features Nissan’s unique motor control, which enhances refinement.
The all-new Nissan LEAF offers a spacious, modern interior with a nearly flat floor enabled by the CMF-EV platform. A sleek, floating-style dashboard houses dual 12.3-inch or 14.3-inch integrated displays, depending on variant and region. Select models include Bose “Personal” Plus audio with headrest-integrated speakers for an immersive sound experience. A Nissan-first dimming panoramic roof with PDLC technology provides heat shielding and natural light control at the push of a button. Driving performance is enhanced by a compact 3-in-1 EV powertrain—10% smaller than before—featuring Nissan’s refined motor control for a smooth, responsive ride.
The all-new Nissan LEAF features a new motor and high-rigidity motor-mount bracket, reducing motor vibrations by 75% compared to the previous model. In select regions, Intelligent Distance Control Assist enhances city driving by maintaining safe distances and optimizing regenerative braking. The LEAF offers two liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery options with thermal conditioning: a 52 kWh version delivering 130 kW and 345 Nm of torque, and a 75 kWh version offering 160 kW and 355 Nm. An upgraded thermal management system recycles heat from the onboard charger to improve regeneration in cold conditions, while select variants include navigation-linked thermal conditioning to optimize battery cooling based on the drive route.
The all-new, third-generation Nissan LEAF offers an estimated range of up to 303 miles (for select U.S. models with the 75 kWh battery) and supports fast charging from 10–80% in around 35 minutes. U.S. and Canadian customers benefit from a NACS connector, enabling access to Tesla Superchargers. An Intelligent Route Planner provides real-time route and charging station info, while advanced driver assistance features include a 3D Intelligent Around View® Monitor, Invisible Hood View, and Front Wide View.
Enhancing outdoor lifestyles, select U.S. models offer two 120V outlets delivering up to 1500W to power devices, along with an optional V2L adapter for external charging. In Japan, the LEAF supports Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality, and in Europe, it is Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) compatible for future energy cost savings and grid stability. The new LEAF will be manufactured in Japan and the U.K., with pricing details to be announced closer to market launch.
