Mercedes-Benz unveiled its new CLA model at Villa Miani in Rome on March 13, calling it ‘the most efficient and intelligent Mercedes’ ever built. The model is expected to launch in India in early Q1 2026.
Equipped with the AI-powered Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), the new CLA is the first automotive system to integrate AI from both Microsoft and Google. The all-electric variant boasts an 800-volt architecture, enabling rapid charging of up to 325 km in just 10 minutes. The company claims the fully electric model has a maximum range of up to 792 km.
“The debut of the new CLA in Rome—a city as iconic and timeless as Mercedes-Benz—was more than just a car launch. It signifies the start of a new era for both our brand and our customers. The CLA will be the most efficient and intelligent Mercedes we’ve ever built, a true ‘one-litre car’ for the electric age, while also offering a highly efficient hybrid variant. This is just the first in a series of new models joining the Mercedes-Benz family,” said Ola Kaellenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
The launch also introduced the “Class of Creators” collaboration, featuring partnerships with cultural figures such as rapper Ice Spice, interior designer Gustaf Westman, and fashion designer Colm Dillane, along with gaming platform League of Legends and toy brand Hot Wheels.
“Rome, with its rich history of culture, art, and design, is the perfect setting to unveil our all-new CLA. We’re thrilled to welcome so many members of the Mercedes-Benz family tonight at Villa Miani—a stunning venue for an extraordinary new car. The new CLA is the smartest vehicle we’ve ever created, setting new benchmarks for today and the future,” said Bettina Fetzer, Vice President of Digital & Communications at Mercedes-Benz AG.
Mercedes-Benz describes the new CLA as the start of a new design era for the brand, showcasing an illuminated radiator grille, star-shaped daytime running lights, and an optional “MBUX Superscreen.”
Sustainability remains a key focus, with the company claiming a 40% reduction in the model’s carbon footprint compared to its non-electrified predecessor. This includes greater use of recycled materials, such as 50% post-consumer recyclate in thermoplastics and recycled components in seats and floor coverings.
As regulatory pressures and competition in the EV market grow, Mercedes-Benz continues its push toward electrification. While committed to an all-electric lineup by 2030 where market conditions allow, the company is also maintaining development of hybrid models alongside fully electric vehicles.
