Madhur Bajaj, veteran industrialist and former Bajaj Auto executive, passes away

He held key leadership roles across the Bajaj Group and served as president of prominent industry bodies like SIAM and MCCIA.

Madhur Bajaj, former Vice Chairman and non-executive director of Bajaj Auto, passed away on April 11, 2025, in Mumbai at the age of 73. He had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital due to health issues and suffered a stroke two days prior to his demise.

Born on August 19, 1952, Madhur Bajaj was the grandson of Jamnalal Bajaj, the founder of the Bajaj Group, and cousin to the late Rahul Bajaj. He held significant positions within the Bajaj Group, including chairman of Maharashtra Scooters and director roles in Bajaj Electricals and Bajaj Finance. He also served as president of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA).

Madhur Bajaj’s educational background includes studies at Doon School in Dehradun, a BCom degree from Sydenham College in Mumbai, and an MBA from the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland, completed in 1979.

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal expressed his condolences, stating that Bajaj’s leadership significantly contributed to the growth of the Bajaj Group and India’s industrial development. Baba Kalyani, CMD of Bharat Forge, and Shailesh Chandra, President of SIAM, also paid tributes, highlighting his commitment to excellence and his role in developing the Automotive Mission Plan (2006–16).

Madhur Bajaj’s legacy as a visionary industrialist and philanthropist will be remembered for his contributions to India’s automotive industry and economic growth.
